Faking Female Orgasms
June 23, 2005 |
Sex
Via Se7en comes a news story entitled No faking female orgasm in scientific research. Apparently certain sections of a woman’s brain are only stimulated during a legitimate orgasm, and not during a faked one. Nobody has mentioned whether this is important to the millions of women faking orgasms whose partners don’t own big expensive brain scanner machines. And check this out:
“Women can imitate orgasm quite well,” [a researcher] told a fertility meeting Monday. “But there is nothing really happening in the brain.”
So…just like a real orgasm for a man, then?
Look, Latex!

Sex
There are lots of great updates around the CyDy Network to post about, but they will have to wait until I get home…I can’t exactly browse porn from work! Livejournal.com URLs are usually quite innocent, though, so I read Livejournal during the workday.
I wrote about Ulorin Vex a couple of months ago, but she’s got another set of pictures that’s so awesome I just have to share. It’s a shoot she did with her identical twin sister for a site called Fetish Eyes. If you like latex, gas masks, and/or wetsuits you will love the sample photos she posted! (Actually, I know a guy who loves women in wetsuits, the only wetsuit fetishist I’ve ever met…I should send him this link!)
Anyway, go check out those pictures. My favorite is the last one, personally…so striking!
The Art and Politics of Netporn
February 12, 2005 |
Sex
Via Julie comes an announcement of a call for papers (and art projects) for an October conference called The Art and Politics of Netporn. It’s being held in Amsterdam and they are looking for 250-word abstracts about a variety of topics including censorship, politics, feminism, and punk porn. One category I found a bit odd was queer/gender/gay, because to me those are different subjects and I could see them each having separate sections of their own! But that’s how they’ve done it up. If you’ve got anything to contribute, do so by March 15th - details are at the link above.
Kinky Shopping

Sex
I don’t have much time for a long update tonight, but I did take a few minutes to start putting together the kinky toys section of the CyDy Blog Shop. There’s not much on there right now, but I promise it’s just the beginning! I actually have a lot more plans for the entire shop…please stay tuned! Good night for now!
Would She Make Me One?
December 16, 2004 |
Sex
From an apocryphal bathroom stall:
my mother made me a lesbian
if I gave her the wool would she make me one?
It’s silly, yes, but is it true? The debate has raged for many years as to whether homosexuality is a choice, a learned behavior, or genetically pre-determined. Personally, I think it can be any of the above for any individual. Julie Bindel, however, writing in The Guardian, thinks we choose to be gay. As Tim Worstall mentions, the validity of this argument is suspect because it’s based on the premise that sexuality is a societal construct.

Blissbox

Sex
I discovered a fun site for European sex toy buyers: Blissbox ships to the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium. I found out about them through the sexblo.gs post about Vibi, which commandeers your Nokia phone’s vibrating battery and produces waves, teases, or a pulsating vibration. Blissbox also has categories for lingerie, gadgets, and DVDs, including a gay video section. So if you’re on the east side of the pond and looking for toys and porn, check them out!
Betty Dodson’s Non-Monogamy
December 7, 2004 |
Sex
Hey everybody! I had an absolutely killer day at work, so my brain is a bowl of jello right now. I hope you’ll forgive me if I just hook you up with an article tonight. It’s by Rachel Kramer Bussel, writing for the Village Voice about the open relationship enjoyed by renowned sexpert Betty Dodson. Here’s a preview:
Her attitude toward non-monogamy (she hates the word polyamory) is that it’s freeing. Instead of hiding and cheating, people can partake of their desires for others while still returning to their primary partner.
I can’t even take credit for finding this article…thanks very much to Zille for sending it to me! (Check out Rachel Kramer Bussel’s blog too, if you like!)
Human Sexuality Survey
November 18, 2004 |
Sex
This is a University of Missouri survey pertaining to human sexuality. The announcement e-mail said they identified a need “to measure sexual orientation identity more precisely and effectively. [This] study intends to produce a scale to measure sexual orientation identity.”
There are some flaws in this survey, but I figured I’d mention it anyway because I’m keen to see what alternative they come up with to the Kinsey scale and Klein grid. Spread the word, but be prepared to list your ethnicity as “other” - their choices are pretty weird.
OOB Dec 2004/Jan 2005
November 17, 2004 |
Sex
Oh wow…if you don’t already get On Our Backs in the mail, run out to your nearest porn shop immediately and pick up a copy of the December 2004/January 2005 issue. OOB went glossy a couple of months ago (still mostly black and white though), but this latest issue unveils a total format change!
There’s been a lot of shifting around: Nina Hartley’s advice column, formerly up front, has shifted toward the back of the magazine (after the pictorials) along with the How To section; Adventure Girl joins them near the rear. Backtalk, which prints readers’ responses to questions, has moved up several pages (it’s no longer at the back, but they’re still calling it backtalk), and the quotes section has moved up to the front and is now called Media Whore. (Or was it always? I’ll have to consult my archives.) The “Page 12 Pinup Girl” (where I originally appeared, but that’s just my name for it) has now moved to page 14. There are now three major pictorial spreads, as opposed to just two, and in addition to the two fiction entries there’s also a “true confessions” story that reads like my favorite kind of smut: the true kind!
So check out all the changes in OOB, and let me know what you think. Don’t miss the Camp Trans article, which explores the experiences of the women kept outside at Michigan. And if you take the “Are You a Slut” quiz…let me know your result!
Chicks Dig Porn

Sex
The latest Good Vibrations Gazette reports on something readers of this site probably already knew: women like porn! In fact, one in three women, according to Nielsen (the same people who do the TV ratings, but this is their online division), has deliberately sought out pornographic materials on the web. If you’re one of those women, and you’re still looking for high-quality porn that’s for women, by women, then have a peek at Cyber-Dyke. There’s so much hot solo queer porn you may never have to go looking again!
