Tattoo Removal
March 3, 2005 |
Pop Culture
I feel like a gossip hound, constantly talking about the Portia/Ellen thing…maybe I should make a category just for them. Anyway, this latest update is from the latest (spring 2005) issue of On Our Backs, who got it from DigitalSpy.co.uk.
Portia de Rossi has contacted a dermatologist about removing a tattoo of her ex-girlfriend’s initials from her ring finger. De Rossi, who has now moved in with comedienne Ellen DeGeneres, is having the initials “F.G.” removed after splitting up from Ringo Starr’s step-daughter Francesca Gregori.
Great. So as if presenting a negative picture of the sustainability of gay relationships wasn’t enough, she now has to prove that getting a tattoo of a lover’s name is pure stupidity. If it were me, I’d leave it there. The relationship was obviously an important part of her life, or she wouldn’t have gotten the tattoo, and so she should be able to face up to her own past by leaving the tattoo there.
Australian Patricia LeFevre

Pop Culture
According to this article from KeralaNext.com, Patricia LeFevre from Australia can turn any woman gay. Best quote:
Between women calling me and camping out on my doorstep and fighting over me and jealous men sending me threatening letters and e-mails, I decided I had to get out of there for my own safety.
And all this because she’s beautiful!
Wife Swap

Pop Culture
The fabulous AfterEllen has come up with a review of the latest episode of Wife Swap. A lesbian mom switched places with a conservative straight mom. Unfortunately I missed the show (I hope it re-airs, just so I can be up on it), but their review is great. If you saw it, please let me know what you thought by commenting on this entry!
Is She or Isn’t She?

Marcia Cross, one of the stars of Desperate Housewives, says she’s not a lesbian. I’ve never seen that show, and I never saw her on Melrose Place either, so I’m not familiar with her at all. Rumors have been flying recently that Cross is gay, and Genia said she’s not surprised by the news. Cross, who is 42 (I hope I look that good when I’m 42), thinks people were just trying to find a reason why she’s still single. She seems not to care about sexual orientation, though - she thinks it’s strange that we live in a world where it’s so important.
Phoenix Film Festival

For those of you who live in the Phoenix area, now’s the time to go to Out Far!, the annual international lesbian and gay film festival. It’s actually located in Scottsdale, and runs from February 4th to 6th. Lesbian films include the Gal’s Short Subject Program, D.E.B.S. (which looks hilarious), and Hearts Cracked Open - which features Annie Sprinkle! Tickets for the entire festival are $100, a five-pack of tickets is $45, and you can get individual show tickets for $10 in advance or $12 at the door. Hopefully these films will make a tour of the queer film festivals around the country for the rest of us to see, too!
Miss Hedison is Mad

Pop Culture
Okay, I know I promised no more about this, but I also heard from a reader who said she liked the gossip. So I’ll just mention quickly that Alexandra Hedison is planning to sue Portia de Rossi for alienation of affection. Yikes! Keep your catfighting in private, girls, please. We’re all adults here.

AfterEllen.com Visibility Awards

Pop Culture
Yet another reason (as if we needed another!) to love AfterEllen.com: they’ve just announced the results of their first annual AfterEllen.com Visibility Awards! There aren’t really any huge surprises - The L Word wins Best Scripted TV Series, t.A.T.u. snags Worst Musical Group or Performer - but it’s still a nice little collection of awards. There’s presumably no weight to these awards yet, but perhaps in a few years they will inspire screenwriters and performers to improve their portrayal of lesbian and bisexual women.
One Last Thing

This is my last post about Ellen’s breakup, I promise! But I wanted to point you all toward Genia’s post in SistersTalk about does Ellen have an obligation to the LGBT community. It’s a great post wherein Genia decides that it’s time to give Ellen a break. Read the comments too - there’s some good discussion in there.
Breakup Update

Pop Culture
Here’s an update on the story I mentioned yesterday. Apparently Ellen DeGeneres and Alexandra Hedison were hopelessly in love just a month ago when they collaborated on a year-end cover story for The Advocate. I can’t help but feel that Alexandra is the one to be pitied and coddled right now, because even as Ellen mourns the end of their relationship…she’s still hooked up with Portia DiRossi. Alexandra and Francesca Grigorini are stuck being single with no partner to console them. Who knows, maybe they’ll hook up with each other. How’s that for revenge?
By the way, I do want to mention that I’m not usually so interested in gossip column items. I’m not sure why this one has caught my eye twice now.
