Sex and vegans

March 29, 2008 | Filed Under Health, Pop Culture, Sex

In spite of the apparent popularity of Steak and Blowjob Day, vegan women are becoming increasingly more popular in the adult industry. Being vegan myself, I find this very exciting. I’m not entirely sure why vegans are so much sexier. Perhaps it is our healthy lifestyles, and compassionate natures. Maybe it’s just because alternative looking women are the trend of the moment, and a lot of those women are also vegans. Another porn star once mentioned to me that vegans smell better and have better tasting body fluids, and I agree. Perhaps we’re just better cooks. Fleshbot took notice of this trend but I don’t think they’ve seen long time cy-dy friend, Furry Girl’s website VegPorn.com

I think vegan visibility in the adult industry is a good thing even though I see sex workers and sex positive people getting all sorts of horrible comments in online vegan communities. I’ve never had anyone say a bad word about vegan porn to my face, but then I also generally don’t associate with people who would wish to say bad things about me to my face. I think that combining veganism and sexuality creates healthier attitudes towards our bodies and the highlights the importance of sexual health and diet in total health.

Tila Chooses the Cock

December 24, 2007 | Filed Under Pop Culture

Oh by the way…unless you live under a rock, you know that Dani Campbell got shafted at the end of Tila Tequila’s show. Ahem - that is, she lost. It was between Dani, a wholesome dyke firefighter from Florida, and Bobby, a generic guy from I-don’t-know-where. And Tila chose…Bobby. Pretty much everybody I know is angry about this, but my wife points out…this is why some lesbians put “no bi’s” in their personal ads. They’re not necessarily discriminatory, they just recognize that getting left for a guy is a lot more painful than getting left for a girl. Lesbianism is still a big minority in this country, and the normal standard of things is for women to choose the cock. It makes some women feel inferior if they’ve been left for a man. I don’t understand it, personally - women can have a cock too, and it can come in all different shapes and sizes, and some even look pretty realistic! But it seems some girls just prefer the real thing. I dunno. I have nothing against bisexuals in general, or even men in general; I have plenty of male friends and bisexual friends! It’s just hard to see a woman blatantly choose a man over a woman after so many weeks of “oooh, will she or won’t she?” drama. Anyway, if you think Dani Campbell should get her own show, there’s a Facebook group to that effect.

Hello, Dani

December 15, 2007 | Filed Under Pop Culture

Somebody invited me to a Facebook event that was to be a group gathering to watch A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila. Having no idea what this was, I looked it up - oh, it’s a reality show, in the dating category, with the twist of bisexuality. (See, you can break all those shows down.) Anyway, I happened to catch an episode last week, the one where Tila gets rid of the blonde chick and narrows it down to a guy and Dani Campbell. Now, when I first turned on the TV, it was the end of the previous show. I saw this person there who was of ambiguous gender, and I guessed that it was a guy - oops. Sorry, Dani! It turns out Dani refers to herself as “futch” - a feminine/butch mix - and she is a firefighter.

I was all set to watch the finale this week, because I wanted to see if Dani won or not. Unfortunately, they replaced it with a recap/rerun thing. Sooooo I will be watching next weekend to see if Dani gets it, or the guy does. I have been watching the commercials, and I think there is a little twinkle in Tila’s eye when she says “I choose…” and looks at Dani. But damn, I have no idea!

Jodie Comes Out

December 13, 2007 | Filed Under News Reports, Pop Culture

Jodie Foster Finally! After yeeeeears of rampant speculation - and the recent cover of Out magazine - she has finally spoken out for herself. Obviously “everybody has known” for years that she’s gay, but I don’t like to speculate until somebody says it for themselves. According to the AfterEllen article about it, Jodie has been dropping little hints for a few months now - wearing an “eternity ring” and referring to her “partner” - but she finally said it on a public stage, specifically in Los Angeles at the “Women in Entertainment Power 100″ breakfast. Of course this is not news to most people (and, ahem, I only just found out today, but she came out last week), simply because it’s so popular to speculate, and now those people are shrugging their shoulders and saying “see, we knew.” But still, I’m jazzed about it. Very cool. Yay Jodie!

Dante’s Cove

October 15, 2007 | Filed Under Pop Culture

Does anybody get here!, the paid gay network? I found an article in GayWired called More than a Lesbian Love Triangle and it’s about the here! show Dante’s Cove. I didn’t realize Jenny Shimizu had a regularly occurring role right now…she is so yum!

Added: Looks like I have access to some here! programming through my on-demand service, but Dante’s Cove isn’t there. Damn! Also, check out the top 11 lesbian/bi moments in sci-fi and fantasy courtesy AfterEllen.

Gay Celebrities and the Closet

August 22, 2007 | Filed Under Pop Culture

These celebrities are gay and out of the closet. So are these celebrities! Unfortunately these celebrities have preferred to remain in the safety of the closet, exchanging their comfortable professional position for a lifetime of living a lie. Thanks to my friend Schelli for the links!

Funny Lesbian Jokes

August 5, 2007 | Filed Under Pop Culture

AfterEllen’s got a thread for funny lesbian jokes but there haven’t been many posted! Go contribute if you’ve got an AfterEllen account. I’d post my favorite cheesy lesbian joke but I don’t have an account, so I’ll share it with you instead.

What does a lesbian bring on the first date? (A toothbrush.)
What does a lesbian bring on the second date? (A U-Haul.)

Sorry I haven’t been posting much, I have been insanely busy, but I don’t know if anybody notices anyway!

AfterEllen’s Hot 100

June 12, 2007 | Filed Under Pop Culture

It’s time for my look at the AfterEllen Hot 100. The National Ledger is already surprised that Angelina Jolie was not on top, but what surprises me more is that the #1 pick was Leisha Hailey. I will be totally honest: she’s cute, but her voice drives me insane, kind of like Jennifer Tilly. Maybe it’s just my ongoing jealousy that she used to date k.d. lang, but even though I like the Murmurs, I am not really a Leisha fan. And AfterEllen’s comment that “you’re even hotter when you’re out” is a total snub to out bisexual women - Angelina Jolie is an out bisexual, but Leisha Hailey beat her, so only out lesbians get to be hot?

Anyway, browsing through the rest of the list is lots of fun because of all the eye candy. I especially like how diverse the list is - women of all ages and nationalities. And hey, it was even educational - I didn’t know Kristanna Loken was bisexual!

Mr. Pierce

June 1, 2007 | Filed Under Pop Culture, Uncategorized

I know I never write about anything of substance…but David Hyde Pierce really is gay! I know he always seemed gay, but I always assumed that was just his style as an actor. I felt the same way when I heard about John Inman, too…

Contribute Your Stories

Whew, okay, now I’m back and posting. According to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, the LGBT Archives at Western Reserve Historical Society have stepped up their efforts to improve their collections. The LGBT Archives, which were established in 1991, are looking for personal stories, oral histories, documents, photographs, and publications. If you have anything to contribute I hope you will consider doing so! Just a note, if you have anything of interest to the leather community, please contribute that to the Leather Archives & Museum. The LGBT Archives are in Ohio, and LA&M is in Chicago.
