San Francisco Queer activists at work

Friday, May 14th, 2010

I know this has been making its rounds on the internet, but I just want to say that I am so proud of my local community for getting involved with the hotel union’s work. There have been a number hotel worker strikes all across the Bay Area in the past few years, and the issue of health care and fair contracts has been an ongoing issue. As a working class woman who worked in hotel housekeeping several years ago, I can say that it’s incredibly difficult to go on strike and to call for a boycott of your own workplace. You just can’t afford to leave your job in order to strike and do this activist work. We all need to work together to make sure that we all have equal rights, adequate access to health care and aren’t being abused multinational corporations.

(and it’s really hilarious to see a marching band and mob of people singing and dancing in the middle of a nice hotel lobby)
