Breaking news, Pres. Obama has announced the repeal of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy in the military. We ALL know that there are a ton of gay men and women serving in the military currently and many more gay veterans. For many folks military service is the path to college education and a better career. The US military is a prime example of the benefits of affirmative action, yet this policy that denies gay people the ability to express their personal identity, lifestyle and family has lingered. The policy doesn’t really serve any purpose except to make gay people and their contributions invisible. As if ignoring gay people would make them somehow magically disappear! Thank you President Obama for finally getting rid of this stale old “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy!!
