Ars Erotica

July 7, 2007 | Filed Under Cool Links

I’ve had this link in my blogroll for a while, but it’s not really a blog, so I removed it. Rahne Alexander used to write a frequent column called Ars Erotica. Here’s what she has to say about it:

Ars Erotica began as a platform from which I could make a place for some discourse on transgender identity, sexuality, queer theory and feminism — among other things. But sometimes I just managed to go on and on about the ginkgo trees that were stinking up my neighborhood. Ars Erotica ran from May 2002 until November 2004 in Manifesto:, the non-heterosexual newspaper of the Monterey Bay.

Definitely check it out if it sounds interesting. I’ve met Rahne once or twice, she’s really cool, and I really recommend Ars Erotica.

“Felice Newman saved our 20+ year relationship from LBD (lesbian bed death). As her clients, we can’t say enough about how much she’s done for lesbians everywhere and the two of us in particular.” — Berkeley

Felice Newman is on a mission to end “lesbian bed death” in her lifetime. She believes that a dwindling sex life is not inevitable for long-term partners. In fact, as Felice tells her clients, lesbian partners need not settle for anything less than a completely satisfying sex life. Sexual Partnering for Lesbian Couples is a half-day workshop designed to help you achieve the sex life you desire.

When you have sex, you bring with you the whole package of who you are: your sexual history, your beliefs about sex and gender, your accumulated sexual wisdom, your erotic imagination and yearnings, and your physical structure. As a somatic practitioner and sex educator, Felice addresses the whole “self,” including sensations, desires, tissues, emotions, thoughts, muscles, breath, movement, language, history. This workshop will include basic somatic practices including sensation awareness and self-observation.

Space limited–register early!

Idiot Bouncer!

This story almost slipped through my radar. I get lesbian news in my e-mail, and I read down a list of stories and hit delete - then I realized the last one looked interesting. I retrieved the e-mail and took a look.

Lesbian says restaurant ejected her from women’s bathroom for …
AP NEW YORK: A bouncer at a popular restaurant in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village neighborhood ejected a lesbian customer from the women’s bathroom after last …

Oh hell no. It turns out this took place at Caliente Cab Co., a decent restaurant in Manhattan. I’ve been there before, and every time I drive to New York, Caliente is my landmark for turning onto the street that gets me out of the city.

Apparently the woman looks rather masculine, but isn’t transgender. Usually, when she says “I’m female,” people say “oh I’m sorry!” But this time, the bouncer escorted her back to her table, and forced her party to pay their check and leave the restaurant.

People, this was in Greenwich Village, the home of Stonewall. This was the same day as the Pride parade. I hope this bouncer gets fired, and if not I will not be returning to Caliente. If you need good margaritas and tasty food in Greenwich Village, allow me to recommend Tortilla Flats instead.
