Change the Focus

April 27, 2007 | Filed Under Pop Culture

Okay, okay! I get it already! Can the press please stop reporting on Lindsay Lohan and Mel B’s supposed lesbian flings?

I feel about this the exact same way I felt about Anne Heche. Bisexuals are everywhere. It does not have to be a great big shocker when a girl kisses another girl. Hell, even straight girls experiment all the time, where do you think the word “bi-curious” came from? I have seen articles claiming that Lohan “has gone gay” - people, please. Smooching a girl in public does not make another girl gay. Especially if it takes place in an establishment that serves alcohol.

Write to the Library

April 26, 2007 | Filed Under News Reports

A follow up to my last post, about the father who’s overreacting that his teenage boys found Felice Newman’s Whole Lesbian Sex Book on the shelves. Felice herself sent an e-mail to her mailing list encouraging us to e-mail the local librarian and voice our support for keeping the book on the shelves!

Overreacting?

April 20, 2007 | Filed Under Literature, News Reports

I hadn’t known this before, but apparently The Whole Lesbian Sex Book is suitable for public libraries. It was written by Felice Newman, and it appeared on the shelves of a public library in Arkansas, at least until recently. It seems that some guy is outraged that his teenage sons came across a lesbian sex book while researching military academies - the book was obviously put back in the wrong place by somebody who didn’t want to check it out after all. But the guy was so offended that he’s demanding $20,000 as payback. Am I the only one who thinks two teenage boys would like that kind of thing?

Pink Personal Lubricant

I have to tell you, I feel really weird right now. I just wrote about a brand of lube on my new site, Pink Blog, and I had to put it in all these flowery words. “Toys” instead of dildos, “personal lubricant” instead of lube…it’s a perfectly natural product but it’s just weird to write about it on a NON-adult blog. I mean, you can buy lube in the grocery store, it’s on shelves at kid-eye-level, but what if kids come to see Pink Blog? It’s such a relief to have a place to come where I can say…

PINK lube is for making your pussy wet! And it comes in a bottle indistinguishable from most perfume bottles!

I feel better now. :)

Audio-Controlled Vibrators

April 13, 2007 | Filed Under Cool Links, Sex

I came upon an excellent sex toy blog called Slashdong and I wanted to share it with you. Specifically, I want to direct you to Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Modern Audio Toys, which is the most in-depth review - and analysis - I have ever seen of audio-based toys, or possibly even any sex toy! (I was going to say it’s not safe for work, but then I remembered - neither is this blog. So if you’re reading this, you either don’t care about NSFW, or you aren’t even at work. To read more about NSFW, check out Susie Bright’s posting: Not Safe For Prudes.)

The Saga Continues

April 10, 2007 | Filed Under News Reports

Unbelievable. The Lisa Miller-Jenkins and Janet Miller-Jenkins trial is still going on. This article from ChristianPost.com says that Vermont has decided Lisa does have visitation rights. That article is rather revolting, though - the spin is dizzying - so here’s another one from a Vermont newspaper instead. Meanwhile, Isabella is almost five years old and she hasn’t seen one of her mommies in years. It’s just horrible how animosity between two adults ends up affecting the child. Keep it to yourselves, ladies!

Meanwhile, there’s also the case of Sarah Wheeler, which is equally or even more appalling.

Lesbianishes

April 5, 2007 | Filed Under Pop Culture

I was tempted to leave a comment on AfterEllen’s Top 10 Lesbian-ish Men post, but I couldn’t bring myself to register for the site. So I’ll just say it over here - at last my love of Johnny Depp has some vindication! See, I’ve always known he was a hottie, I just didn’t know it was because he was lesbian-ish. Actually, there are three men I think are totally sex - Johnny Depp, David Bowie (mostly old days, but still some today), and Ian McKellen. I would so have Ian McKellen’s love child.

Tasteful Nudes

April 4, 2007 | Filed Under Cool Links, Sex

Who’d have thought that Metafilter would lead me to a site full of gorgeous women? It started with a link to Susie Bright’s blog, where I saw a picture in the sidebar with the tagline “tasteful nudes” on it. This led me to DOMAI, whose tagline is: We respect woman and her beauty. And they do! I was absolutely blown away by the simple, natural beauty on this site. There’s no popups and no cookies and no banners, it’s all very plain and beautiful.

They have a “beauty of the day” feature that gives a free large picture daily, but my favorite picture is Sabrina. There’s such a timeless beauty in that picture - and yet it’s a recent picture, you can see she’s got her upper ear pierced. This whole site is just gorgeous, you really should check it out.

Lesbian Palestinians

April 3, 2007 | Filed Under Around the World, News Reports

Brenda Gazzar has written an article about Palestinian lesbians in Israel, including an interview with the founder of Aswat, which is the only group of its kind there. I was surprised to read that an Arab community leader said “we do not oppose their personal choice” - I had thought lesbianism was a punishable offense in Islamic culture. He went on to add that what he opposes is the publicizing of the issue, and I guess that makes sense. But really I was just surprised that he wasn’t supporting punishment for being lesbian.

I noticed a line in the article that mentioned the group started as an online forum, but I can’t find it - I suppose I don’t know how to search for Arabic or Hebrew sites!

Scandals

April 2, 2007 | Filed Under Pop Culture

Can I just say that the OMG SHE’S A LESBIAN scandals are getting really old? Now Carmen Electra is being accused of dating Joan Jett. And the singer Fergie has apparently had same-sex interactions, though not necessarily relationships. One UK site treats it pretty well, but the DailyIndia.com site uses the headline Fergie was once a lesbian! Sensationalized much? That article also mentions that Angelina Jolie and Madonna have also had sex with women, though not necessarily with each other.

Why all the big scandals about same-sex relationships? It makes me feel like we’re still being treated like an oddity, when really lesbians are all over the world. Why is homosexuality still so shocking? What does it matter if Carmen Electra is dating a woman, a man, or a monkey? (Well, okay, the monkey thing is illegal.) But really…who cares? Can’t we just be seen as normal?
