Japanese Stuff

August 31, 2005 | Filed Under Sex

Remember the PerfectFlex ladies who are on CyDy from time to time? This site was promoted to me as having a gallery of erotic contortionist photos…but it appears to all be in Japanese, so I’m not sure what’s going on here!

There’s also this gallery of weird stuff found in Japanese sex shops. Thanks to Kale for both links!

Gay Gender Gap

August 30, 2005 | Filed Under News Reports

David Crary has written an article for the Associated Press called Gender gap divides U.S. gays, lesbians. It’s a really good article, go check it out. (BTW, I have updated this site to Movable Type 3.2 - let me know if anything looks funky.)

Supreme Court Will Consider Parental Rights for Former Lesbian Couple
This is notable primarily because it’s in Utah. However it also points out that lesbians can be just as hasty as straight people when it comes to rushing into things.
Gays Disappear From Network TV
Unfortunately this isn’t particularly enlightening as there are no titles or characters named, but the numbers are interesting.

Pulp Covers

August 27, 2005 | Filed Under Literature

Here is a fun slideshow of gay-themed pulp novel covers, from 1971’s “Some Are That Way” to 1952’s “Warped Desire.” If you like this collection, check out Jaye Zimet’s book Strange Sisters on the same subject, and see also PulpCards.com.

Free Advertising

August 26, 2005 | Filed Under CyDy Network

Added: Offer temporarily unavailable while I figure out the PayPal thing - thanks Ed!

Hey there! See that ad box I’ve just added to the top of the left column? It’s something I’m trying out for a while. For a limited time, if you send me an e-mail (the address is my first name at cyber-dyke.net and you can get my first name from the author section in the left sidebar) and your ad is themely and approved and all that good stuff, I’ll host your ad for a week for free. Or if you want to actually pay for it, that would be good too! But I figure this way you’ll be able to see how many clickthroughs your ad actually gets, and then once the “free offer” is over if you are satisfied you can purchase more ad time. Please try me out!

British Observation List

August 24, 2005 | Filed Under News Reports

Interesting admission: Britain’s Royal Air Force kept records on suspected lesbians during the 20th century. Radclyffe Hall, the famous author of The Well of Loneliness, was one of the earlier targets; in 1920 she was nearly charged with “obscene libel and corruption of minors.” The record-keeping continued all the way through to the 1990s.

Brazen Femme

August 23, 2005 | Filed Under Literature

While at a bookstore today, I found a neat book in the gay and lesbian section. Brazen Femme: Queering Femininity is a collection of works edited by Chlöe Brushwood Rose and Anna Camilleri. Intended as an in-your-face rebuttal of the concept of femme invisibility, the book features fiction, photographs, poetry, and essays. This is a topic of particular interest to me, because as a young femme dyke I do feel invisible. I make a point of mentioning my wife when possible, just to emphasize that not everyone who looks straight actually is straight. I have a picture of her on my desk at work, and when people ask me who it is I tell them she’s my partner or my wife (depending on how well I know the person). I agree with Christine Drinkwater’s October 1999 column in Femme magazine:

I believe I have some responsibility to be out, proud and loud about my queer/lesbian/dyke status. I certainly don’t desire to be mistaken for a heterosexual woman.

Network Update: Sappho’s Girls

August 22, 2005 | Filed Under CyDy Network

There’s a new update at Sappho’s Girls that features more sepia-toned “vintage” erotica. The star this time is Veronica, and while the pictures don’t quite look vintage to me, there is definitely a “frozen in time” feeling to them. I don’t recognize Veronica - I don’t think we’ve seen her before, at least I haven’t - but she just looks a little too modern for vintage. Or maybe it’s the lack of soft focus? Anyway, she does a very nice striptease…I vastly prefer women with natural breasts! There might be just a little bit for the foot fetish fan (who should also check out Serafina Sox!) about a third of the way through the gallery.

I wonder if anybody has told Veronica that she looks like Mercedes McNab…

Network Update: Serafina Sox

August 21, 2005 | Filed Under CyDy Network

This weekend brings another Makaio update from Serafina Sox! She does some cute solo posing in the yellow room again, this time wearing light blue thigh-highs with little bows on the top edge. Her hair is beautifully highlighted, but it’s so perfect I’m wondering if it might be a wig! It looks great…I’m just not sure.

No More Toys

August 20, 2005 | Filed Under Sex

So am I the absolute last person to realize that Toys in Babeland has changed their name and is now simply called Babeland? And that they’ve been selling their products through Amazon for more than a year? Holy crap. I’m honestly not sure how I feel about this. Will my Toys in Babeland t-shirt become a collectors item now??
