Spectator

June 30, 2005 | Filed Under CyDy Network

The online edition of Spectator, a magazine featuring listings of escorts, professional dominatrixes, and other adult services in the San Francisco bay area, has featured CyDy as their June 20th centerfold! Other topics in the same issue include a guide to Pride Week (in what just might be America’s queerest city), and an erotic adventures column by Turner. Don’t be fooled by the magazine’s cover blurb, though - Cyber Dyke is targeted to lesbians, but visitors of any and all genders and orientations are welcome to join!

No Gay Pride in Tampa

June 27, 2005 | Filed Under News Reports

This is a double whammy for queers and librarians: Florida county “abstains from” gay pride. A graduate student at the University of South Florida made an exhibit on gay authors, and it was placed in a public library in Tampa. Reportedly some library patrons were “upset” by the display, particularly the fact that pamphlets were available to children. A county commissioner had this to say:

One of the things that occurred was that pamphlets were being distributed to children by librarians who are county employees, and they referred children to youth groups outside Hillsborough County to explore their sexuality.

This makes it sound like librarians are actively recruiting seven-year-olds to be gay. I suspect what really occurred is that the pamphlets were available on a librarian’s desk, and some 15-year-olds who might be questioning their sexuality picked them up. So the librarians have been vilified, and gays and lesbians in Toronto are being denied any government-recognized pride celebrations as a result. What wonderful progress.

It’s My Party

June 24, 2005 | Filed Under Pop Culture

In a recent interview with AfterEllen.com, singer Lesley Gore has come out as lesbian. When she was famous in the 1960s for songs like “It’s My Party (And I’ll Cry If I Want To)” and “You Don’t Own Me,” she had not yet realized her orientation - that didn’t come until a few years later, when she was in her 20s. Although she had never come out officially, the five-page interview mentions that she has been with her partner for 23 years and has hosted the “In The Life” television series twice.

Faking Female Orgasms

June 23, 2005 | Filed Under Sex

Via Se7en comes a news story entitled No faking female orgasm in scientific research. Apparently certain sections of a woman’s brain are only stimulated during a legitimate orgasm, and not during a faked one. Nobody has mentioned whether this is important to the millions of women faking orgasms whose partners don’t own big expensive brain scanner machines. And check this out:

“Women can imitate orgasm quite well,” [a researcher] told a fertility meeting Monday. “But there is nothing really happening in the brain.”

So…just like a real orgasm for a man, then?

Network Update: Sappho’s Girls

June 22, 2005 | Filed Under CyDy Network

Now there’s a welcome face I haven’t seen in a while! Makaio, last seen on Sappho’s Girls in winter, returns with two large galleries. The first, from May, puts the tiny Hawaiian beauty into a brightly colored room accented with wonderful fabric and feathers. She gives a supremely seductive dance and striptease, and the shots are all very tantalizing poses. I just love this gallery! The second gallery of Makaio is a sepia-toned set in the style of antique erotica. The leopard blanket is the only thing that clues you in that these pictures were taken recently. Her lovely face and cute ass fit right in with vintage pictures. Just to show you how lovely these galleries both are, here are two previews!

CyDy Blog Scoops On Our Backs

June 21, 2005 | Filed Under CyDy Network

If your Summer 2005 issue of On Our Backs just arrived in the mail like mine did and you thought the centerfold looked familiar, there’s probably a good reason for that! Remember this video capture of ZoĆ« and Serafina? The entire photo spread is from the same session as the photo gallery at Sappho’s Girls! Expertly photographed by Zille, the OOB spread is free of the usual sugary text and gives us eight pages of lovely imagery. But if you’ve already seen the SG gallery, you’ll want to pull that out again - only the OOB centerfold is in color, whereas the CyDy shots are all color!

kBlogger

June 17, 2005 | Filed Under Cool Links

My friend Kale - a righteously mohawked dyke - linked to kBlogger, a blog about the adult industry for adult webmasters. There are plenty of adult industry blogs - another friend, Alexa, writes one - but this one is actually for the webmasters. The animated GIFs are a bit distracting, but the information contained in this blog is good stuff.

Caribbean Homophobia

June 13, 2005 | Filed Under News Reports

I’m back from vacation! Sorry I left the site quiet so long. Today I’d like to take a look at the rampant homophobia throughout many Caribbean islands. An Aruban woman is seeking refugee status in the Netherlands because her fully legal Dutch marriage is not being recognized on the island, which as a part of the Netherlands Antilles is supposed to acknowledge all authentic contracts. It has been said that a high-ranking Aruban official has financed anti-gay protests on the island, and the issue of homophobia is widely acknowledged throughout the region.

Jamaican musician Beenie Man has been criticized for his anti-gay lyrics (there is even a documentary about Jamaican homophobia), and the Caymans are considered among the most homophobic islands in the Caribbean. Homosexuality is not illegal in the Bahamas, but it is illegal for men in Grenada, Saint Lucia, and Trinidad. It is illegal for both men and women in Barbados.

Despite this, the Caribbean remains a popular vacation spot for gays and lesbians. The Hedonism resorts have always accepted same-sex couples, and Sandals recently changed its policy to allow them to vacation there. The beautiful blue water and white sand are irresistible - but you have to be careful where you go.

ErotiCandy

June 5, 2005 | Filed Under Cool Links

Zille sent me a link to ErotiCandy, a blog written by Eddie, a photographer in Los Angeles. He links to beautiful women in porn, especially mildly fetish sites - that is, there’s just a touch of something naughty in a lot of the women Eddie links to. He does a lot of surfing and condenses the good stuff for us!
