Connecticut’s Same Sex Unions

April 21, 2005 | Filed Under News Reports

Zille sent me this cool entry by GayPatriot about the approval of same-sex civil unions in Connecticut. Looks like the northeast is the place to be! They’re still refusing to allow the word marriage to be used but it’s a step in the right direction.

  1. Systems Architect Says:

Yup. And Spain just did yesterday. With a minor change to civil law, they have given right to marriage to same sex couples (the text will be rephrased to use a gender-neutral wording, instead of the current “husband” and “wife”, but I can’t think of an english equivalent right now). In the same proposal passed in parliament yesterday, the right for adoption was also granted to same-sex married couples.

Divorce has also been simplified. Joint custody for offspring after a divorce will now be the rule, and not an exception, and the need to disclose or give a reason for divorce in court (washing dirty clothes in public) has been removed altogether.
