The fabulous AfterEllen has come up with a review of the latest episode of Wife Swap. A lesbian mom switched places with a conservative straight mom. Unfortunately I missed the show (I hope it re-airs, just so I can be up on it), but their review is great. If you saw it, please let me know what you thought by commenting on this entry!

One of those few moments I’m happy not to have a television remind me how close minded the U.S. has become…
February 11th, 2005 at 5:42 amSaw it and it didn’t show the Lesbians in a very good light (IMHO). Granted, the ultra-conservative that she switched places with also didn’t exactly look great. The conservative came off (prior to the switch) as very controlling, too much so. On the other hand, the lesbian came off as pretty much an ‘anything goes’ couple/lifestyle. The lesbians (again IMHO) came off pretty bad because (via the camera) their entire life/lifestyle was based around lesbians - not good, their kid also needs to deal with the rest of the world.
As in many other episodes, both families did gain a bit from the experience. Not in personal growth but in changes that help the kids. That was about the only real positive thing that I saw from the show - outside that, it did show a stark contrast between lesbian parents and hetrosexual parents. Can’t say that the lesbians came off looking too good.
