Many gay Americans have considered fleeing the country, perhaps for Canada or another nation that allows same-sex marriage. But those of us who live in major urban areas, like San Francisco or New York City, have it lucky compared to queers in Oklahoma. Fully 76% of the state supported a constitutional ban on gay marriage, and there is a new state law preventing same-sex couples from adopting children. But while some queers are considering leaving the state, others are taking this opportunity to fight back against an increasingly oppressive government.
