After a former roommate told me that Depo-Provera completely stopped her periods, I went out and got it. Periods were always so much trouble for me that it was well worth the cost of the Depo shots, and I’ve been happily period-free for more than four years with no major adverse effects from the Depo. I went to Planned Parenthood because I simply didn’t know where else to go; I was 19 when I started Depo and I hadn’t ever really seen a gynecologist. Apparently many other lesbians and bisexual women feel the same way, because now Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington DC has opened up a clinic for queer women. Located in the very same office I used to go to, “The L Clinic” is open on the first and third Thursdays of the month. With any luck, the clinic will be successful and other Planned Parenthood chapters will pick up the idea.
